At Ironwood Mills, we’re not a typical furniture showroom or your typical anything, really—and that’s the point.
We’re a custom woodshop and design studio based right here in Phoenix, Arizona, where salvaged urban trees are transformed into one-of-a-kind pieces of functional art.
When you visit our studio, you’re stepping into the creative process itself. The space is filled with inspiration: raw slabs, finished works, Modern Mountain tables, benches, and smaller pieces that show what’s possible when craftsmanship meets intention. It’s not staged—it’s alive.
Part working shop, part gallery, part treasure hunt.
We invite you in not just to see what we do, but to experience how your future table, console, or project might begin.
Because when you work with us, you’re not choosing from a showroom—you’re co-creating something entirely your own.

Where It All Begins: A Tree Saved from the Landfill
Almost all of our wood comes from right here in Arizona—mostly from the Phoenix area. Yes, it’s true (and I’ll say it again): 99% of our material comes from logs we’ve rescued right here in Phoenix. Kind of amazing when ya think about it. Think about it.
We work with local arborists who call us when trees need to come down due to age, storm damage, or development.
Instead of sending these trees to the landfill or turning them into mulch, we rescue them and give them a second life.
The log itself doesn’t hold much value until we do the work to process it.

Here’s a simple look at what that takes:
Transport the log to our milling site
Let it season and stabilize outdoors
Mill it into usable slabs
Stack and sticker it to encourage even drying
Load it into our kiln for 4–6 weeks of careful drying
Add it to our slab inventory, ready to be transformed
We’ll be sharing a behind-the-scenes look at this process in an upcoming blog. Stay tuned if you’re curious how we turn fallen Phoenix trees into timeless heirlooms.
Collaborating with Us: Studio Visits & Creative Exploration
Your Vision Meets Our Material
Whether you’re a homeowner, architect, designer, or builder, the next step is a visit to our studio by appointment. This is where the collaboration begins.
We’ll talk through your project goals—what the piece is for, how it needs to function, dimensions, style, and any conceptual direction you’re working with. Then, we walk the space together, looking at potential slabs and materials that could bring that vision to life.

Sometimes, the perfect piece is already in our inventory, and we can move quickly into pricing.
Other times, the right material needs to be sourced from our offsite mill or creatively reimagined from what we have on hand.
In these cases, we may:
Provide a pricing range based on similar past projects
Provide a pricing range based on similar past projects
Provide a pricing range based on similar past projects
This process works best when it’s approached as a creative partnership.
Whether you’re sourcing a statement piece for a home, designing a commercial space, or bringing in custom elements for a larger project—trust and flexibility are key.
When the client (or the team) allows room for interpretation and material-driven design, that’s when we create our most remarkable work.

Here’s the truth: with salvaged, irregular material, things sometimes shift once we begin.
We might uncover a hidden crack or natural void that needs creative solving. Or we may need to tweak dimensions slightly to get the best possible result. Sometimes the wood you initially liked might not be ideal structurally—and another piece ends up being a better fit.
This is where trust in the process—and in the hands of the artist—becomes essential.
Whether you’re a client commissioning a statement piece for your home, or a design professional working toward a specific vision for a larger project, this part of the journey requires openness.
You came to us for something unique—not a replica.
And that uniqueness comes from responding to the material itself.
Our best work happens when you give us clear parameters—and then trust us to create within them.
It’s a true collaboration between your goals, our salvaged material, and the skill of the craftsman.
And if that kind of relationship isn’t the right fit—that’s okay too.

Getting Started: Estimates, Deposits & Timelines
Once the estimate is approved, we request a 50% deposit to secure your spot in our project queue.
For larger or longer-scope projects, we may structure payments in phases rather than waiting until the very end. This helps keep momentum going and ensures everyone stays aligned throughout the build.
In terms of timing, we generally aim to complete most projects within 8–12 weeks from the time we receive the deposit.
Timelines can vary based on a few factors:
The complexity of the design
Our current shop workload
Your project’s delivery needs or scheduling preferences
Sometimes we’re able to fast-track a project if shop capacity allows—but we’ll always be upfront about what’s realistic.
Our priority is delivering exceptional work, not rushing craftsmanship.

The Build: A Slower Process with a Beautiful Payoff
This is where the piece comes to life and the magic happens.
Once your project is in motion, our team gets to work—hands-on, detail-driven, and fully immersed in the material. Every piece is shaped, joined, and finished by skilled craftspeople who care deeply about beauty, structure, and longevity.
We’ll keep you updated throughout the process. Some clients enjoy dropping in for progress check-ins; others prefer to wait for the final reveal. Either way, you’re part of something that’s being made just for you. How cool is that?
This isn’t fast furniture. It’s functional art, crafted with intention, skill, and respect for the material.
Like any meaningful process—whether it’s building a home, cultivating wellness, or designing a space—it requires time, trust, and a bit of breathing room.

A Process Rooted in Story, Built for a Lifetime
This isn’t a fast or formulaic process—and it’s not meant to be.
It’s for people who value creativity, collaboration, and the thrill of seeing something truly original come to life.
Whether you’re a homeowner commissioning a signature piece, a designer sourcing for a custom interior, or a builder working on a larger commercial project—this is a hands-on, creative journey shaped by vision, material, and craftsmanship.
You’re not just buying furniture. You’re part of a story that begins with a salvaged Arizona tree and ends with a one-of-a-kind piece of functional art, made to last for generations.
If you’re ready for an adventure—we’d love to meet you.
