Ironwood Mills Summer Slab Sale

Ironwood Mills is an independently owned and operated furniture maker and lumber yard, specializing in handmade wood furniture and steel fabrication for residential and commercial use.

We use all locally sourced hardwoods that we harvest from all around the valley.

Our mission is to save and utilize this underused resource creating quality, one-of-a-kind hand-crafted furniture.

1.  Skilled Woodworker

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a skilled woodworker to help with custom projects, build furniture and run the shop. We build dining room tables, coffee tables, bar tops, shelves, river tables and custom art pieces.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

You are an advanced carpenter and furniture maker that can work with live-edge and dimensional lumber. Steel fabrication experience is a plus.  You will also be able to organize a workshop as well as perform maintenance on equipment and keep all workspaces clean. Additionally, will be trained to interact with customers, make sales in the lumber yard as well as work up estimates on furniture projects.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Min. 5 years woodworking/carpentry experience required
  • Advanced carpentry skills
  • Prepare and set up machines and tooling for woodwork
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Must be able to work independently as well as with a team
  • Safety and experience with carpentry saws (chop saw, table saw, miter saw, band saw, routers, jointers, planer etc.)
  • Operate woodworking, milling and sanding machines
  • Select and adjust the proper cutting, milling, boring, and sanding tools for completing a job
  • Ensure that products meet company standards and project specifications, making adjustments as necessary
  • Advanced sanding and finishing experience for creating the perfect finish on all products
  • Lift wood pieces onto machines, either by hand or with hoists
  • Listen for unusual sounds or detect excessive vibration in machinery
  • Available for off-site installations and delivery of furniture

 
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

  • Must be able to work independently as well as with a team
  • Reliability, trustworthiness and dependability a must
  • Able to lift 100 lbs minimum (with ability to move and organize of lumber yard)
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Ability to complete sales on register
  • Available Monday – Saturday
  • Hours TBD. Requesting availability from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • PART-TIME, CAN LEAD TO FULL-TIME
  • 30 DAY TRIAL WORK PERIOD

2.  Sawyer – to help run our Lucas Mill and Wood-Mizer bandsaw.

 

We are looking for a skilled Sawyer to help with milling, stickering, maintaining machinery, maintaining yard & possible log retrieval.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

You have experience in woodworking and milling, love getting up early, working hard and are strong and healthy. You can take direction, but also initiative. You work well with others but also independently. You love keeping things neat and organized and can easily keep up with maintenance of all equipment, logs, slabs and the yard. You can easily help with log retrieval, milling, stickering and keep things in order at our log site and slab/shop warehouse.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform the following:

  • Min. 5 years woodworking/carpentry experience required
  • Prepare and set up machines and tooling for milling
  • Remove sawdust and other debris from production equipment
  • Oil change, change blade, grease zerk, & clean out air filters
  • Assist team members throughout the mill as needed
  • Be in good physical health, strength, and have some mechanical ability
  • Be able operate chainsaw
  • Safety and experience with carpentry saws (chop saw, table saw, miter saw, band saw, routers, jointers, planer etc.)
  • Operate woodworking, milling and sanding machines
  • Use hand tools to trim pieces or assemble products
  • Lift wood pieces onto machines, either by hand or with hoists
  • Load and unload lumber and timber from trucks and forklifts
  • Conduct inspection of logs to identify defects and indicate areas for removal
  • Sort and arrange logs and timber according to sizes and wood type to allow for easy identification
  • Guide log position on carriage to ensure cutting is precise and according to standards
  • Adjust and sharpen the teeth and cutting parts of the sawing machine to improve operational efficiency
  • Season lumber to prevent wood shrinkage and warping
  • Utilize specialized equipment such as kiln in effectively drying seasoned lumber
  • Use barkers to strip barks from wood logs to allow for easy cutting and processing
  • Measure and indicate cutting lines on timber
  • Maintain accurate record of job operations as well as up-to-date inventory
  • Ensure proper disposal of waste materials on completion of job operation
  • Listen for unusual sounds or detect excessive vibration in machinery
